Change of address – Form 8822
Meaning
Moving to new home from the old home in other wards changing of address or place from old place or address to new address or place while changing of address they must use the form 8822.
After moving into a new home, you may want to use Form 8822 to notify the Internal Revenue Service of your change of address. The IRS may send you notices, refunds paid with a paper check and other correspondence relating to your personal, gift and estate taxes. If you don’t let the IRS know that you moved, it sends all correspondence to your last known address, the one listed on your most recent tax return.

When Filing Your Tax Return
If you change your address before filing your return, enter your new address on your return when you file. When your return is processed, we’ll update our records. Be sure to also notify your return preparer.
Notifying the Post Office
If you change your address after filing your return, you should notify the post office that services your old address. Because not all post offices forward government checks, you should also directly notify the IRS as described below.
You may also write to inform us that your address is changing. Tell us you’re changing your address by providing us your:
⦁ full name
⦁ old and new addresses
⦁ social security number, individual taxpayer identification number, or employer identification number, and
⦁ signature
Joint Filers – If you filed a joint return, you should provide the information and signatures for both spouses. Send your written address change information to the IRS addresses listed in the instructions to the tax forms you filed.
Purpose of Form
We can use Form 8822 to notify the Internal Revenue Service if we changed our home mailing address. If this change also affects the mailing address for our children who filed income tax returns, complete and file a separate Form 8822 for each child. If we are a representative signing for the taxpayer, attach to Form 8822 a copy of our power of attorney. Generally, it takes 4 to 6 weeks to process a change of address.

⦁ If the taxpayer is changing both a home and business address, use a separate Form 8822 to show each change.
⦁ It is not necessary to file an amended return to change your address with IRS. If you are amending your tax return for reasons other than to change your address, you will need to mail Form 8822 with the amended return. However, if you have already sent your amended return, Form 8822 can be mailed by itself.
